Maryland electrician license reciprocity with Virginia: A Maryland electrical license does not transfer automatically to Virginia.
Maryland electrician license reciprocity with Virginia result
Virginia ULR is an individual portability application, not the automatic reverse of Maryland’s Virginia agreement. DPOR must issue the Virginia Tradesman license before work begins.
How to use this route
- Identify the destination license matching the planned scope.
- Request official verification of the existing license and examination history.
- Apply through the standard out-of-state route.
- Complete any required experience review, examination and business licensing.
Conditions and limitations
Virginia does not publish a blanket Maryland electrical reciprocity agreement. A qualifying Maryland licensee may apply through Universal License Recognition after meeting Virginia’s similar-scope, one-year license-history, examination, training, good-standing, criminal-record and fee conditions.
Reciprocity never authorizes work before the destination authority issues the required license. Business registration, insurance, local permits and continuing education remain separate.
