The existence of a California–North Carolina contractor agreement does not make every classification reciprocal. For electrical work, a North Carolina licensee must use California’s standard C-10 application route unless CSLB determines that another statutory waiver applies.

How to use this route

1. Review California C-10 qualification and experience requirements.
2. Do not use the North Carolina building-classification reciprocity form as evidence of electrical reciprocity.
3. Submit the California original contractor-license application with verified experience.
4. Complete required examinations and issuance conditions before performing C-10 contracting.

Conditions and limitations

California has a general contractor reciprocity relationship with North Carolina, but its current classification table maps North Carolina Building Contractor only to California B or B-2 classifications. It does not list North Carolina electrical licenses for a C-10 trade-exam waiver.

Reciprocity never authorizes work before the destination authority issues the required license. Business registration, insurance, local permits and continuing education remain separate.
